BestyBnB: How 2 tech guys came to support domestic violence survivors

Brenda Andresen

Driving near Liberty, Missouri, Matt Krentz was listening to his local NPR station when he heard an interview with a representative from Safehome domestic violence shelter. He was shocked to learn that one of the shelter’s biggest challenges was supporting survivors who won’t choose to leave a dangerous situation if their pets must remain behind. It just so happened that Andy Bond, one of Krentz’s good friends, heard the same radio interview. Watch as our own Brenda Andresen talks with Krentz about how he and Bond—two self-described tech guys—came up with the concept for BestyBnB to help more people and pets escape domestic violence. (Note: This video was filmed on-location at Bar K in Kansas City and comes with all the background noises one would expect from the facility’s playful canine patrons.)
